Grand Kyrgyzstan Expedition – 9 Day Road Trip

Depart Bishkek for the fertile Chuy Valley, visiting the historic Burana Tower, an 11th-century Silk Road minaret surrounded by

ancient balbal stones. Next, climb the tower for panoramic views and explore the open-air museum of Turkic grave markers.

Continue the journey, ascending through Kyrgyzstan's heartland with a dramatic climb over mountain passes. The first sight of Song-Kol Lake unfolds—a vast alpine basin at 3,016 meters where nomadic traditions endure.

Settle into a traditional yurt camp on the shoreline, experiencing authentic hospitality and witnessing the silent sunset over the high-altitude waters.

Wake early to witness the magic of sunrise over Song-Kol. After breakfast, enjoy morning horse riding along the lakeshore, exploring the vast alpine pastures and observing nomadic life up close.

Depart Song-Kol and drive over one of Kyrgyzstan's most spectacular roads—the "32 Parrots" Pass (Terskey Torpok), named for its numerous serpentine switchbacks. Afterward, this dramatic route offers breathtaking mountain views at every turn.

Descend to Tash Bashat Village, a place deeply connected to Kyrgyz traditions. In addition, check into a unique ethno-hotel that blends traditional architecture with modern comfort.

Today's off-road adventure takes you deeper into the mountains toward remote Kel-Suu Lake, near the Chinese border. Along the way, a border permit is required and included.

Pass through the magnificent Kok-Kiya Valley, a spectacular world of mineral-striped mountains, rolling green jailoos (summer pastures), and meandering rivers. Finally, this remote valley showcases the Tian Shan's raw beauty with colorful geological formations.

Continue toward the border region, arriving at your high-altitude yurt camp in the Kel-Suu area, surrounded by rugged peaks and pristine nature.

After breakfast, trekking to the lake or ride horseback to Kel-Suu Lake for extra fee. Next, this stunning turquoise lake, surrounded by towering cliffs, is one of Kyrgyzstan's most spectacular sights.

Upon arrival, enjoy time to:

Return to camp for lunch, then begin the drive back to Naryn City, arriving in the evening. Afterward, check into a guesthouse and enjoy dinner.

Depart Naryn and drive to Kochkor Village for a traditional felt-making show, where skilled craftswomen demonstrate the ancient art of creating shyrdaks (felt rugs). In addition, watch as raw wool is transformed into beautiful patterned carpets.

Continue to the dramatic Ak-Say Canyon for a short hike through its "Martian-like" landscapes of red rock formations.

Arrive in Bokonbaevo on the southern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake for

an eagle hunting demonstration with a local berkutchi. Next, witness the ancient tradition of hunting with golden eagles.

Explore the spectacular southern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake:

Skazka Canyon ("Fairytale Canyon") – Surreal red, orange, and yellow sandstone formations sculpted into shapes resembling castles, animals, and mythical creatures. A photographer's paradise.

Barskoon Waterfall – Powerful cascade in a lush gorge. Take a short hike to feel the mist and enjoy the cool mountain air.

Jeti-Oguz Valley – Iconic "Seven Bulls" red rock formation rising dramatically from the green valley floor. View the famous "Broken Heart" rock.

Arrive in Karakol in the evening. Check into your guesthouse.

Soviet 4×4 Adventure & Natural Hot Springs

Board a classic Soviet-era UAZ 4×4 for an exciting off-road journey into the Altyn Arashan Valley ("Golden Spa"). The 16-kilometer rugged track winds through dense pine forests, crosses mountain streams, and climbs through dramatic terrain.

Emerging from the forest, you'll enter the breathtaking Altyn Arashan Valley, surrounded by snow-capped peaks including Palatka

Peak (5,200m). This pristine alpine paradise is famous for its natural hot springs.

Spend the afternoon:

Soaking in therapeutic mineral waters with mountain views

Taking short walks to explore the valley

Simply relaxing in this tranquil setting

Optional horse riding is available to explore deeper into the valley ($14 per horse).

After breakfast in the valley, enjoy a final soak in the hot springs or a short morning walk. Board your 4×4 vehicle for the descent back to Ak-Suu village.

Transfer to Karakol, then begin the scenic drive along Issyk-Kul's picturesque northern shore, heading toward the Chon-Kemin Valley. The route offers beautiful views of the lake framed by the Kungoy Ala-Too mountains.

Arrive in the stunning Chon-Kemin Valley, a protected national park known for its pristine beauty, dense forests, and dramatic mountain scenery. Check into a cozy guesthouse nestled in the valley.

Enjoy dinner and the peaceful mountain atmosphere.

After breakfast, depart Chon-Kemin and drive back to the capital (approx. 2-3 hours). Upon arrival in Bishkek, enjoy a city tour exploring the capital's highlights:

Ala-Too Square – The central square featuring the Independence Monument and changing of the guard

Oak Park – A charming park with bronze sculptures and ancient oak trees

Osh Bazaar – Vibrant market perfect for last-minute souvenir shopping
